What's the best way to simulate always run?
I remapped the run key to my forward, and that works pretty well, but if I just straight out sidestep, I lose my speed.
What did you all do?

On the Mac, you can set it to Caps Lock, just like in Marathon, but that's a whole new can of worms....

No, I don't want to just use another key. I want to, kind of, "Always run".

Well, when it is on caps lock it is kind of a toggle switch instead of holding it down.

Too bad the first two DF games didn't come with Quake's console...
On the PC version of DF, I've always seen Caps Lock set to "slow walk". It isn't a toggle; rather annoying, due to the fact that it still toggles Caps Lock.
Personally, I live withot having an "always run" option... I don't even use the mouse; I have my right hand on the numpad, with pitch controls set there, and my left at the lower left corner of the keyboard, allowing for me to lave a finger pressing the shift key, without hindering the movement of my other fingers. But then again, many people tell me my keyboard posture is strange.
On another note, I think you could map multiple keys to the same function... I know that I can use the NumPad and the adjacent key pad (with the Home, End, Insert, etc...) for the same functions, but have mapped the standard left and right keys to strafing. Perhaps you could combine run with the strafe buttons, too, even if it might require editing the configuration file directly.

You can in fact use Caps Lock as a toggle on the Mac, as I said.

Does anybody play DF with the mouse? I just use the arrow keys.

I always thought that only MacDF had a mouselook option built in. I used to keep a list of all the DF-21 topics where newbies asked about it.
Heh. You *are* a newbie, unless you count by levels released or something.

I play with all the original controls set, and I think that's the best keyboard layout. Just constantly hold shift with your left little finger.

Or tape it down. Voila! Always run!

Or your left ring finger. I understand some people have trouble separating them anyway.
