I would take a BM from the original game and extract the palette from any of the 7 or 8 offered and work from them. That way it will make them come out much cleaner.

Yes you can... the trick is to open a BMP that already has the palette you want to use. This can be done by using the BMPDF utilities (DF2.EXE) to convert a BM into a BMP. It will have the palette, so you can load it up in paint and save under a different filename.

Yeah, I would have reccomended pretty much the exact same thing, but I simply use WDFUSE to convert them... It saves me from needing another program.

ok well i changed the bmp to what i whanted and then i had to change the size to a power of 2, so i did that but when i go to chage it back to a bm in wdfuse it says "external exception C000001D" whats going on with it is it a problem with wdfuse or the bmp? is it really this hard to make a wall with a big crack in it.

Well there are two possibilities:

1) WDFUSE couldn't handle the BMP you gave it.

Are you SURE you specifically saved it as 256-colors?

[Edit: Also, what's the exact size the image is? Just curious]

2) WDFUSE is just buggy

In which case you'd have to use the BMPDF tool, which I use all the time anyways... Smile

Sorry about the .pal part (WDFUSE usually gives a message telling you you need to specify one, at least it does for me)... But I'm glad to know that things are going smoothly now...
