I've heard that there are two programs to take screenshots with Mac Dark Forces: Snapz 1.0 and MacsBug.

Is MacsBug easy to use to do this? And does it cost much to get Snapz to work?

Also, are there any other utilities which you people have tested that work and are free?

Woohoo! Another Mac user! Welcome to DF-21.net.

I've never heard of MacBugs before, but I know the older version of Snapz (not Snapz Pro) is shareware (possibly freeware now, because it's rather old now). It's pretty straightforward and useful. http://www.sharewarejunkies.com/mac/snapz.htm

None of the download links in that link you gave seem to work.

Does the archive of it from The Dark Tide work the same as the copy you have?

Also, do you have to pay before you can take good screenshots, that is, ones that are not stamped with the company logo?

Since you didn't ask if MacsBug was free, does that mean you already have it, or what?

For cripes sake, why must people always ask instead of just trying it themselves? Try it and get back to us if it doesn't work. I mean, come on- its one tiny little download!

Yeah, the Snapz file on the Dark Tide website is free and takes perfect screenshots, no logo, only Dark Forces.

Welcome fellow Mac user!

I don't use the Mac version very often (having switched to PC a few years back). I just had a good opportunity recently to use a Mac and play DF, and I wanted to get some screenshots of the high-resolution gameplay.

I didn't even think about MacsBug being shareware. It just didn't cross my mind.

Unfortunately, the Snapz file on thedarktide.com didn't work for me when I downloaded it. And MacsBug wouldn't run correctly either.

I managed to solve the problem in a rather roundabout manner. I started up a laptop running OS X, went into Classic emulation mode replicating OS 9, started Dark Forces, and pressed Command-Shift-3 to get screenshots.

The screenshots come out as Adobe .pdf files, which both the Mac I was using and my normal PC can read.
So I've got the screenshots I wanted.

MacsBug "wouldn't run correctly"? Maybe it was only ever written for OS 9; I don't really know.

Patrick would want to know if one of the downloads on his site is bad, though.

I know the Snapz download on thedarktide.com works in MacOS 9. I am using it myself now. The problem must be an incompatibility related to OS X. Since I have never used it in that manner, I can't comment on the incompatibilty... so, sorry for your troubles.

When I use command-shift-3 the screens all come out wrong. They are blue and white only. Help!

Dunno about others, but I tend to ask in case someone says, "It's a mega bad virus and it ate my computer. Leave it alone!!!"

Just me.
