This isn't exactly Dark Forces releated but maybe you guys can help. The battlex.lfd creator of TIE Fighter Workshop is rather buggy and has a problem with the larger sized bitmaps. Would like to make something of my own so that the larger bitmaps will show up properly. The problem is I don't know how TFW converts a 256 color bitmap into whatever format a delt actually is. I was wondering if anybody around here knew how to convert a bitmap to a delt. Using 2DF/DF2 is not an option at this point.

Why is it not an option? That's what I use, so that's the only method I know. (I forget... does WDFUSE convert into DELTs? I don't think that was ever implemented.)
I've often wondered if there was a way to do custom cutscenes in TIE Fighter. (I'm not too surprised if setting delts up in DF would not work in TF.)
Then again, I always thought an X-Wing/Dark Forces/TIE Fighter crossover series would've been cool.
Oh well. Good luck.

The Lucasarts logo in the beginning has been changed before so that kind of thing can be done. But I'm not looking to do animation. In TIE Fighter when you select your battle on the galaxy map there is a close up. Its just a single frame from a delt. And this is what I want to be able to do. So I was wondering what kind of format the delt was so that I could convert a regular bitmap.

DELT and ANIM conversion were implemented in WDFUSE... That's what I use for making them.
