Simply: would you like to see a Screenshot of the Week feature added here at DF-21? It wouldn't require much to start or maintain (read: even I could have it updated on time!)...
It should go something like this: every week (or hopefully every week starting this week), authors post screenshots of their latest work. On a certain day of each week, one screen is picked from the bunch and recognized on the front page as the "screen of the week." (We could even have two SotWs if it's been a good week.)
Personally, I'd like to see something like this... I know I'm posting (relatively) constantly about how this or that would inspire authors to work more on their projects, but I do think this would be a great positive.
Any thoughts?

I dig it, only all the screens would be DT 3 or 4 by default, especially since there are a lack of projects at the moment. But I like the idea.
:: Goes off to take screenies ::
I need to do it for my new project and JC anyway

What was that JC crack about?!?
I'm in favor of it. I've got a level right now that I am quite proud of. Sadly though, I do not have any web space to store the images

Don't worry, it's not you; rather, it's his ongoing project, The Jedi Crystal, that BG's referring to.

I believe I just may have the solution to that: photobucket.com. Membership is free and remote linking is, uh, encouraged; furthermore, unless your picture is over 250 KB (which screenshots in DF are not), it won't be resized.
And speaking of resizing pictures, if you wanted to, you could have, say, a scaled-down thumbnail that links to the larger picture (à la TheDarkTide.com's "Screens" section); I s'pose that might make forum browsing a bit easier on ye olde dial-uppers. *cough cough probablyjustmenowadays cough cough*

Um...maybe I seem dense, but what's the point in having a Screenshot Of The Week that everyone's already seen?
I think it'd be better if screenies were submitted to a pre-picked judge to determine SotW, so it's something fresh and new for our viewing pleasure.
Just my $.02.

Mabye not every week... I post almost every day (the exceptions are weekends, when I'm rarely online), yet I wouldn't be up to making a screenie every week... Perhaps every other week... But mabye not.

But now that I'm thinking about it, do that many people have projects out right now to submit a shot every week for judging?
Ah, that's a good point. How about, instead of making it a strict screen of the week, we wait until at least four or five different authors' screenshots are in the running before picking the best one? (And it wouldn't necessarily have to be four or five shots, although I think those might be good numbers to go by.)
Technically, it wouldn't really be much of a screen of the week -- that is, unless we meet our "screen quota" in under seven days.
As for picking the SotW? I'd be for whatever everyone thinks is best. Submitting SotW candidates to a judge or panel of judges sounds like an interesting idea... keeping the screens unseen until the best one is announced. However, I wonder if authors wouldn't rather to debut their screens here on the forums before a SotW is selected.
Another idea might be to post a poll thread in which everyone (that is, everyone short of spambots) could post. It'd have to last just 24 hours, but hopefully this relatively short window of voting opportunity would encourage people to participate.
Private judging? Public voting?
Public debut of screens in showcase forum?
Submission of screens so they premiere either as SotW or in the public poll?
And how about the "screen quota" idea?
Dang, I came up with a bunch of questions.

I like the idea of haveing a poll for the screen of the week mainly because everyone can vote on which one they think is best.
I also like the idea of having 4 or 5 shots at a time. I also like the idea of a quota, but make it probably 2 weeks or until you get 4 or 5 shots, whichever comes first. Once the 2 weeks are over, the shots are then voted on regardless of if you have 4 or not (although it wouldn't make sense to vote for 1 shot).

How about every other week? I can easily submit pics that way since I have to switch computers in order to do so.

Sounds good to me but I don't have the final say so or not...
But it is not looking to likely that it will happen at all since Burning Gundam, Jackson, and myself seem to be interested at the moment. Perhaps everyone else is just too busy though... Yeah that's it

Um... there hasn't been any word on the SotW for a couple days (probably because I'm the only one that stays home on the weekend... I'm a complete loser ) but is there a final desicion on whether we want one or not? I'm just curious.

Here's a thought- I'll set up a DF-21 account there and give the login name and password via PM to anyone that wants it. Sound good?

Alright, the new Photobucket account for DF-21 is up. PM myself, Jackson, or Scapey for the login info.
Just a little treat...a screenshot most of you haven't seen. I haven't worked on this project for a while, but BB thought it was my most promising project.

Dammit!
That's a hell of a lot better than what I've got right now.
Guess I will get those photos <_<

See, I don't even know why I bother to edit DF anymore. I can't compete with that. That is some fine work Casey.
I already have 3 photos ready and waiting here. Take whichever one you'd like (but it doesn't look like I will win with Casey's shot).

Wow! And I didn't think it was that good...
Oh, by the way, that's Kashyyyk, the Wookie homeworld.

That's a fairly good shot there, Casey. A few suggestions, though... Perhaps you should varry the ceiling elevation of the forest canopy; it looks somewhat odd for it to be perfectly flat. Even if you can't spare new sectors for fear of HOMs, then just change the elevation of the pre-exisitng sectors. Also, I might suggest modifying the trunks there so as to not be perfectly circular (or appearing close to thereof). Even without those, it's still fairly good work you have there; forests have always been a throny problem for 3D, particularly when you're stuck with 8-bit textures (the real killer)
As for your shots, JC, they look fairly decent. One of the key elements of great-looking DF work is to add plenty of detail; try adding grooves to the walls and collumns, and overall just try to make use of as much arcitecture to improve the scene as you can.
I've just registered an account at Photobucket (thanks for the suggestion, Jackson!), and I just might post screenies of my work in the coming days, presuming that this reduction in stress I'm seeing continues.

That's just a portion of the level. I may come back to it and add more to those later anyway. Thanks for the suggestion...
Although I am NOT making my level so detailed as to have 42 vectors per sector...
