So I've been thinking about those threads in GD that usually trend toward heated (or perhaps inflammatory) discussions -- threads usually relating to politics or religion or world affairs, etc. There's usually two or so of these threads active in GD at any given time, and if there's not it's usually only a matter of time until a thread turns that way (or one is created).

Given the usual nature of these threads, what do you (the rest of DF-21) think about a forum created specifically for that kind of thread, so that they can all be centrally located for those that wish to debate and participate?

I think it might be a good idea.

Didn't DF-21 use to have a political/religeous discussion forum? Or was that just Massassi... I don't know why Massassi had that forum removed. As for here, that might be a good idea, though this forum is already rather small, so there's not too much of a need for such a forum, as it's already easy to find the active political threads, and they don't wash away other topics... The real big thing I see it causing would be that the ressurection of long-dead political threads would be much more common, something I'm not whether it would be a good idea.

I think only the losing side of those discussions find them "inflammatory". Me, I just find them interesting, and I have no problem ignoring them when the argument has been won.

I think it is a good idea (although I very seldom like to get into discussions regarding those subjects).

Inflammatory in the sense that the subject matter sparks a high level of emotional response and, in some cases, negative reaction to other posters (flaming, if you will).

I still feel this sounds like an attempt to sweep the important issues under the rug, so you can pretend everything is Paradise, and nothing needs to be done about it. By hiding the important threads in a forum of its own, you can just choose not to visit it and keep pretending the issues don't exist. That is dangerous.

I think you're reading into this a little too deep. I'm just making a suggestion that might keep things more orderly.

If it helps, I got the idea from several other forums who have that kind of separate forum.

I know, I've seen them, and I most certainly don't like them.

People say religion tears us apart, but obviously so does politics. I hate both myself, and I think they should be personal issues that aren't broadcast on C-SPAN or MSNBC 24/7. This forum used to be a great community where people could disagree without insulting each other, but as of late, it seems Matthias is really letting loose with his "Swedish forum rights".

If I had my way, I'd abolish the controversial debates on this forum. If you want to do that, go to another forum, or talk with your real friends. It gets so old, especially around election time, and I hate seeing it tear people apart, even online. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, yes, but sometimes it gets so annoying to hear countless people b1tch about their views. Keep it to yourself sometimes.

I don't care one way or the other, but I don't think Matt K is sweeping it under the rug out of personal interest though. There were blatant personal insults recently(i.e. being called a "girl" for posting opinions), and we should try to steer clear of those. People can still choose to not get involved in any thread, no matter what section they are in.

I have been here as long as Matt K and Mattias, and there have always been heated debates, no different from today. At one point or another, everyone here has insulted someone else. We all tend to get over it eventually and move on. I still keep coming back anyway don't I?

Yeah, none of this stuff is new.

As a matter of fact, this stuff is cotton candy compared to the infernos we've had in the past (before Taylor's time, I think).

Personally, I haven't read any of these threads for quite some time. I guess I just stopped getting anything out of them...

I have no problem splitting G.D. in two. It probably should have been done a long time ago.

How about we call it The DF-21 United Nations: "Just as useless, but with 90% less dictators!"
