Make a VUE file for it.
(Can't help you there though, I use a mac and there is no way to make one except by hand)

No, it's actually more like a keyframe animation. In fact, that's EXACTLY what it is. It's a set of data that gives the object information on how to position itself, and nothing more. However, that's not saying much, given that virtually every single one of the major addon levels for DF relies heavily on VUEs. Condition Red is the best example, and as far as I understand, still holds the record for the msot VUEs, as it uses them to control the movement of the entire battle shown outside the space station, as well as some things inside, such as the movement of R2-D2 and C-3PO.

If you keep trying, you can get past the time limit, you just have to play it several times to know what your doing.
Gosh, I would love to beable to make VUEs, but alas, everytime I open a vue file on my Mac and try and make sense of the numbers, it just kinda goes over my head.

Well, the rebel troops in Condition Red aren't really fighting, if you watch, they never actually kill any Stromtroopers. Though I suppose you could have them standing in a small sector, and have WAXs of troops that die when shot at, and have INF on all the sector walls that shut off the VUE of the laser when a real bullet crosses it. That would be pretty interesting.

Do that, and half the computers still capable of playing DF will die from INF overload.
I used a spreadsheet to make the only VUE I've ever made.:w

lol ya, maybe if i make a outside battle and half of the stormtroopers real and half with a vue then have all the rebal troops vues thay might work, then have tie bombers that drop bombs and dark troopers that just run through reb troops and cutt them in half, then do something that makes the screen blery and call it "battle star(the day that kyle dies)"

Paul Nemish made a little tutorial on how to do it in spreadsheet, but I took one look at a VUE file in Microsoft Office and was depressed to find how time consuming even making a simple fly-by would be to write by hand, which is why I urged Brad Oliver to make a VUE editor for mac.

Yes, I have used it, and have used a VUE made with it in the only level I've ever released. However, there's the distinct problem that VUECad's Windows only, and Tom Manning's trouble is stemming from the fact that he has a Mac.
My suggestion to Mac users? Try to see if you can get some form of Windows emulation, get a cheap Windows PC, or perhaps the best solution; install VUECad on a public Windows computer, (such as at a campus computer lab) and do your work there. It's actually quite simple from there; just make sure you have acopy of your .LEV file, so that VUECad can display the layout. From there, it's actually quite simple to make even a rather long VUE; most of the bulk of the space stems from the fact that most VUEs involve curves, and since a VUE is a keyframe-based animation file that uses absolute data... (instead of relative) It takes of lots of space, since, say, the VUE for the Crow landing in Prelude to Harkov's Defection has arround 300 nodes.

2 how do i input the .lev file in the CAD

I think If I could actually use it, it would be pretty easy for me, I've worked with Adobe After Effects, and it sounds somewhat alike.
By the way, maybe this is a dumb question, but there isn't anyway to get a windows emulator, just for DF purposes, without paying money, and without ripping it illegaly is there?

Hmm... I'm not quite sure if there's a free PC emulator availible. However, I do think I recall seeing some that were actually availible at a price reasonable for home users, arround $50-60US, or possibly less. In that case, I might suggest going with the borrowind another PC option...

Well, I'm a junior in highschool right now, and, I can't say that I expect I'l ever get a level to a point where I am ready for VUEs, especially now, I am getting a lot more involved in acting, I even have a meeting with a talent agency on Monday. I'm pretty busy right now and I don't know when I would find a time to finish a level.
Sucks though, I have so many awesome ideas, though prolly everyone else does too.

There are a few open source PC emulators. You have to install an OS on them (this works just fine: http://newdos.yginfo.net/msdos71/ ).
Here is a small list of emulators: http://www.reactos.com/en/content/view/full/62
Scroll down past the ReactOS nonsense. ;o
However, I have never had a need to use an emulator. If you use Windows NT/2K/XP, it is quite possible to get DF working 100%. Google around for and download VDMSound and the VDMS Launcher. Install them both and you can use them with DF (might be a bit before you understand enough about how they work to begin to tweak it enough).
The general idea is to run the IMUSE.EXE with VDMS and then run DARK.EXE after it's been configed. If you have bad soud quality problems, go into the VDMS Shortcut properties and try changing the device under Soundblaster and Adlib to a Wave device.
