DF-21's image posting sucks. I can't see it. It doesn't recognize my picture from my last post either. Someone has to fix that.

Hmmm... I don't think I've seen anything like that before .'/ Heh

Try converting the BM into a BMP and viewing it... if it looks ok, the BM is good. If not... then the BM is the problem.

Also, double-check the flags of the wall to make sure they are correct

I would reccomend trying other formats... try a .JPG, or perhaps a .PNG.

A PLTT file is used for cutscenes. You shouldn't need to worry about them until you get more comfortable with actual level editing and want to start to add those little touches...

PAL files are the level palettes.

Hmm I suggest you stick with level editing instead of doing cutscenes... the level is a more important part after all. Smile You can always learn cutscene stuff later if you get god-like at level making and want to branch out Laughing

In most cases, you wouldn't want to change the .PAL file, unless you're using cutsom textures that need different colors. However, I believe there's a program called PACMUT, over in the Downloads section, that will help you. Remember, the "Downloads" section is your friend.

For me when I make custom BMs, being a mac guy, I just use one of the PALs already in the game. I use primarily the SECBASE.PAL because a whole bunch of the BMs in the actual game use the SECBASE palette file. There's only a couple of occassions when I'll use other palette files.

But I do that so when I go to use my BMs, they work under SECBASE.PAL.

I used the original SECBASE.PAL for my contest entry, and my two levels-in-progress use SECBAS.PAL and TALAY.PAL, respectively... I'll probably be fiddling with the .CMP file for my second level, though...

Yes. Because some BMs are made for a specific palette, and when you use a different palette some of the colors will be messed up. You'll know if you accidentally use one when you look at it ingame (it'll be butt ugly).

And yeah, you shouln't need to make a custom palette... just make any new BMs use the SECBASE.PAL (I use it in pretty much all my levels too, as NTK does).

For making new textures, I would just reccomend using WDFUSE to export one of the original .BMs to a .BMP. That way, it will already be "pallettized", so when you edit it with the program of your choice, it will appear as it will in-game. Just bear in mind that your image editor occasionally won't allow you to use the color you select; that's because that color isn't in the pallette. That's how I make my new textures.
