The GFX look really good on the PC version, though I beat it on my XBOX a long time ago, and I can say that I had a LOT of fun with this one, the first few missions are so so, but after a while the game really picks up!

Yeah I just tried the demo, and it ran really well on my 1.4GHz machine. I was a bit worried. I might have to buy it now as it was a lot of fun!
One strange thing was that the demo wouldn't let me turn on antialiasing on my Geforce 3 card. Anyone else have this problem?

I have a 500 MHz processor with a 2MB video card. Does that answer your question?

This is in both the demo and the full version?
Bleh, that's kinda lame in today's day and age.

I played the Halo Demo... and it ran VERY poorly on my 1.8gHz and GeforceFX 5200... I was disappointed.
I had to turn all the settings to their minimums, and even then sometimes I don't get a decent framerate...
It's still awesome though.

It ran *very* poorly on my 1.7 GHz with GeForce 3. I can't for my life understand how it could run really well on Patrick Haslow's 1.4 GHz with GeForce 3.
The_Mega_ZZTer, since youre graphics card is DX9 compliant but runs at a core speed equal to that of early DX8 cards, it is possible the DX9 code path in Halo is slowing your gameplay down. Have you tried switching to DX8 rendering instead?

Actually, I have a 1ghz AMD, a Radeon 9000 (64MB) and 384 Meg of Memory. It runs like a charm on Medium Settings. But I did have to go all the way dwon to 640X480. I dont see why you guys are having so many problems.
However, when I go inside tunnels in the singleplayer, it starts acting up. For some reason it keeps zooming in at a weird angles randomly. O well.

OK, I guess I may have been overly enthusiastic. It ran at an enjoyably playable level for me. Framerate looked about 30 most of the time with lowered settings. Considering the vintage of my PC, it was plenty for me. Alien vs. Predator ran ultra-crappy though, and I could never figure out why.

Actually, my biggest problem was with the sound. It kept skipping so much it was unplayable... I lost roughly two thirds of it... I could hear a word here and a word there, but most of the speach just dissapeared. It was no fun at all.
At default settings, Halo runs locked at 30 fps, since the developers "accidentally" locked the animation to that frame rate for the XBox version. And yes, I was running the DX8 path at high quality. I'm sure I could get it to run smoother at lower quality, but I don't care much for that.

When I try -use11, I get a DirectDraw init error... -useff APPEARS to work, I'm gonna try playing now.
And I thought forcing BX8 routines would be done through the DirectX tabin the Advanced Display settings, that's why I commented I didn't have one. The VSync was unrelated, I'm just complaining.

Ah, nevermind...
Anyways, it was a -little- faster, but not much in exchange for the special effects like reflective surfaces, lights on guns, etc... also in DX7 there were some gfx glitches, so I'll prolly still use the DX9 mode.

Right. Me, I don't have a choice, it's DX8 or nothing. Well, DX7, too, but that won't do me much good. But to be honest, the biggest problem with the game is the sound issues, not the speed. I can live with the low speed, but when the sound is so messed up I can't even hear what I'm supposed to do, it's no fun to play.

The demo ran fine on my 2Ghz Athlon with 512mb of RAM and a Radeon 9800 AiW. I did have a litte bit of sound stutter every once in awhile.

This discussion is a good example of why I enjoy gaming on my PS2. When there are inexplicable issues with a PC game, It really brings me down.

Every now and then PC gaming will frustrate me to the point where I wonder why I don't just become a console gamer. Then I play a game like No One Lives Forever 2 and my faith is renewed.

Hmm... Too bad I no longer get any assitance in uprgrading my PC, so I'm currently stuck with a K6 500Mhz... But looking at the following page at Microsoft.com:
http://www.microsoft.com/games/pc/halo.aspx
...Doom³ will probably still be the first game with a processor requirement of at least 1Ghz...
As for Ironstorm, the official FAQ states that Required Specs are not availible yet, but say that a "Pentium III" is required:
http://www.dreamcatchergames.com/dci/ironstorm/official_site/faqs.html
As far as HalfLife II, I doubt it will be released for at least another half-year.
DNF? Forget it! It will probably be the first game to require a processor in excess of 1Thz...
